The JIC Safety Mindset

Being a provider of outsourced mining services and having an organisational culture of Caring for our people, health and safety is an integral part and priority of JIC Mining Services (JIC), but also of JIC Engineering Services, respectively falling within the scopes of the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The JIC Zero Harm safety plan

Although JIC supports the safety plan of the client at every site, it supplements it with its own Zero Harm safety plan.

JIC's Zero Harm safety plan rests on four pillars.

  • Mindset,
  • Leadership,
  • Risk assessment and
  • Safe systems and procedures.

The essence of the four pillars of Zero Harm can be summarised as follows:

  • Mindset

Believe in yourself as well as JIC's and the client's safety rules that you can work safely without any incident or injury.

  • Leadership

Lead by an example of safety in knowing and applying the safety rules and non-negotiables.

  • Risk assessment

Identify all the hazards and assess the risk prior to carrying out any work.

  • Safe systems and procedures

Know and apply the safety rules and report any unsafe condition or act.

To enhance the Zero Harm safety plan JIC developed the Zero Harm figure, which in turn resulted in the development of the Zero Harm costume, posters and industrial theatre presentations on safety. The direction of the hand pointing upwards, backwards, forward and downwards, expressed and utilised in the posters and industrial theatre, visually reinforces the remembrance of the 4 Pillars of Zero Harm.
