In line with the requirement of the Mining Charter, JIC Mining Services (JIC) has developed a Social and Labour Plan (SLP). The SLP document addresses how JIC intends meeting the requirements of the Mining Charter. However, due to the fact that JIC's core business is providing outsourced services to different mining companies, our Social and Labour Plan also seeks to align or to support the commitments of the clients in terms of their SLP document.
The SLP addresses amongst others JIC's broad Human Resources Development (HRD) strategy. JIC's HRD strategy takes the following into cognisance:
Below is a brief precis of JIC's SLP commitments:
Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET)
JIC in line with the requirements of the Mining Charter intends to offer all employees an opportunity to be functionally literate and numerate by 2012. The company acknowledges its obligation to uplift the literacy levels of all those employees who have not achieved an NQF 1 qualification. ABET classes are currently taking place on a part-time basis within JIC's respective sites.
Competency A and B Training
Although Competency A and Competency B training is a legislative requirement, it's imperative to note that this training is outcome based, unit standard driven, adding to credits that build into a recognised mining qualification.
Blasting Certificate Training
JIC offers an in-house blasting certificate at its Rustenburg Training Centre. Successful candidates from this course are offered experiential training and are ultimately appointed as miners when they have met all the requirements. This training contributes directly to supplying the scarce and much needed mining skills.
| Women in Mining One of the objectives of JIC's HRD strategy is to reach the target of 10% women in mining. This target JIC has set to realise by 2012. The women in mining programme will seek to train women in positions that were historically male dominated in order to bring about gender equity in the workplace. These positions include core mining positions. | ![]() |
